The Montreal market

Montreal isn't one market, it's six.

We've worked here long enough to know that a Mile-End game studio and a Saint-Laurent manufacturer don't have the same software needs. Here are the industries we serve most often, and what we actually build for them.

Video games and visual effects

The largest production hub in North America after California. Plenty of studios still run their internal operations on spreadsheets and improvised tools.

Artificial intelligence and research

Around Mila and the university labs sit dozens of young companies with a working model and no product around it.

Manufacturing and aerospace

Saint-Laurent, Dorval, the north shore. Mid-sized firms with very specific processes that off-the-shelf software never quite models.

Logistics and transport

The Port of Montreal and the Highway 40 corridor concentrate brokers, carriers and warehouses that still exchange a lot by email and phone.

Professional services and fintech

Downtown and Griffintown. Accounting firms, law firms, brokers, advisors: a lot of confidential documents still moving as email attachments.

Healthcare and private clinics

Clinics, physiotherapy, mental health, dentistry. A sector where data residency and consent are not negotiable.

A Montreal team, not a subcontractor on the other side of the world.

We design, build and host in Quebec. Your data stays in Canada, your contact is in your time zone, and the code is yours from day one.

Where we work

We work online, across the island and both shores.

The whole mandate happens online: video calls, a demo environment available at all times, a shared chat channel. If an on-site meeting becomes useful, we come to you. Here are the areas where our clients are based, and what we find there.

Downtown and Ville-Marie

Head offices, professional firms, fintech. This is where we build the most client portals and compliance tools.

Griffintown and the Southwest

Growing startups and agency offices. Lots of MVPs and first versions of SaaS products.

Plateau and Mile-End

Creative studios, gaming, tech. Teams that know exactly what they want technically and need delivery capacity.

Saint-Laurent and Dorval

Manufacturing, aerospace, distribution. Shop-floor processes to digitize and existing ERPs to connect.

Rosemont, Ahuntsic and the east end

Service businesses, nonprofits, established retailers. Often a first real piece of software after years of spreadsheets.

Laval, Longueuil and the suburbs

Brossard, Terrebonne, Repentigny, Vaudreuil. We serve the whole metropolitan area, and we travel if the project calls for it.

From scoping to go-live, everything can be done remotely. An on-site meeting is still available when it genuinely helps, at no extra charge in Greater Montreal.

Our prices, publicly

What does custom software cost in Montreal?

Almost no Montreal agency publishes its rates. We do. Here's what you pay with us, and what the same mandate typically costs elsewhere in the city.

See all our pricing

Starting amounts, taxes extra. Each phase is a fixed fee agreed before work begins: no hourly rate, no overruns. The gap with the market comes from AI-assisted development, which cuts our costs by 60 to 70%, and from refusing to build what you don't need yet.

How we work

Everything happens online. And we travel if you'd rather.

Building software doesn't require being in the same room: it requires being available and shipping often. So we work entirely online — video calls, a demo environment open at all times, same-day answers. When an on-site visit genuinely makes a difference, to observe a shop floor or train a team, we travel at no charge across Greater Montreal.

Let's talk about your project
1

One team

The people you meet are the people writing the code. No handoff to a team you'll never see.

2

French or English

We work in both languages, in conversation and in the delivered product. Bilingual interfaces are planned in the architecture, not bolted on afterwards.

3

In your time zone

When you call at 9 am, we answer at 9 am. That sounds trivial until you've worked with a team twelve hours away.

Why choose us

Why work with us?

In 2025, our team won first place nationally at the OSEntreprendre challenge, the largest entrepreneurship competition in Québec. We designed and delivered a mobile application from scratch, up against the best teams in the province. If we can win at a national scale, we can deliver your project.

Frequently asked questions

At Oriana, a professional website starts at $1,500, a first working application at $5,000, and full custom software runs between $15,000 and $25,000. Montreal agencies typically charge $60,000 to $120,000 for an equivalent mandate, usually hourly. The gap comes from AI-assisted development, which cuts our costs by 60 to 70%, and from our refusal to build features you haven't validated yet. All our prices are published openly on our pricing page.

Three programs come up often with our Montreal clients. The CDAE, a Quebec tax credit for e-business development, aimed at companies whose activities are primarily in information technology. SR&ED, a federal and provincial credit for scientific research and experimental development, which applies when the project involves genuine technological uncertainty. And Investissement Québec's programs for digitizing small and mid-sized businesses. We aren't tax advisors and we don't fill out the forms for you, but we document the work so your accountant can build the file.

The Charter of the French Language requires software used in Quebec to be available in French when a French version exists, and businesses with 25 or more employees go through a francization process. In practice, for software we build for you, that means the French interface isn't a translation added at the end: we architect the product bilingually from the start, which costs far less than retrofitting it. For your specific situation, confirm with legal counsel — what we're describing here is product design, not regulatory compliance.

Law 25 governs personal information protection in Quebec. For software, it translates into concrete requirements: explicit consent before collection, the right to deletion and data portability, access logging, and a privacy policy that actually describes what the system does. We build these into the product from the start rather than adding them afterwards, and we host in Canada by default.

A freelancer costs less and suits a small, well-defined mandate, but you're exposed if they become unavailable and they're rarely strong at design, development and infrastructure all at once. An offshore team advertises attractive hourly rates, but the time-zone gap, the language barrier and the missing Quebec context — Law 25, Law 96, market realities — often cost more in back-and-forth than they save. A local agency costs more per hour and less per delivered project. Our fixed-fee model exists precisely to remove the gamble in the middle.

Yes. We serve the entire island — Ville-Marie, the Plateau, Mile-End, Griffintown, Saint-Laurent, Rosemont, Verdun, Ahuntsic, the east end — as well as Laval, Longueuil, Brossard, Terrebonne, Repentigny and Vaudreuil-Dorion. The mandate runs online from start to finish, and we come to your offices when an on-site meeting makes a real difference, at no charge in Greater Montreal.

A professional website goes live in 7 days. A first working application, with user accounts and one core feature, is delivered in 14 days. Full custom software takes 6 to 10 weeks depending on the number of modules and integrations. These timelines hold because we scope the project before starting and deliver in slices: you see and test the product while we build it, not six months later.

By default everything happens online: a scoping call by video, demos every two weeks on an environment available at all times, and a chat channel where a question asked in the morning gets an answer the same day. It's faster and it forces no one to travel. That said, an on-site meeting is still available when it adds something — observing a shop floor, training a team at launch. Across Greater Montreal we charge nothing for travel.

Both, in conversation and in the product. Many Montreal businesses have a French-speaking team and English-speaking clients, or the reverse. We design bilingual interfaces at the architecture stage — it's a structural decision, not a translation layer — and we write documentation in your team's language.

A web application runs in a browser, requires no installation, and updates for everyone at once. It's the right choice for a work tool, a client portal or a dashboard. A mobile application installs from the App Store or Google Play and gives access to device features: camera, location, notifications, offline mode. If your usage is mobile-first or field-based, it's justified. Otherwise a web application costs less and evolves faster.

You do, 100%, from day one. We work in your repository, on your hosting accounts, in your name. At the end of the mandate you have everything: source code, documentation, access to servers and third-party services. You can bring development in-house or switch partners without asking our permission or paying a technical ransom.

The software is yours and keeps running without us. If you want us to stay, we offer phased development on the same fixed-fee principle agreed in advance. If you'd rather go in-house, we hand everything over: documentation, handover sessions, full access. Neither option depends on our goodwill, since you already own everything.

In Canada by default. It's a frequent requirement among our Montreal clients in healthcare, legal and financial services, and it's often necessary to comply with Law 25 without having to document a transfer outside Quebec. If your situation requires hosting in a specific region, we arrange it when choosing the infrastructure, not after.

Write to us through the contact form with even a rough description of your need. We come back quickly with a first read: what we understand of the problem, which price range it falls into, and whether we're the right partner. If we are, we schedule a scoping call by video — or a meeting at your offices if you'd rather. You don't need a written spec to talk to us.
